Most people with musical talent never get to experience being in a band.  Most bands don't get the opportunity to record an album.  Sometimes the strains of just everyday life, or geography can put huge walls between you and your "calling".  At some point you have to decide which way to go.  Being a band and playing live is very fun and exciting, but writing and recording your own music has it's own rewards.

Today, technology allows us to plug in and experience the creative side of music, as well as the end-user side.  The landscape of the music industry is radically changing, allowing all to create, listen, and benefit in many ways.  No longer do you have to "get signed" to have your music recorded, mass produced and distributed.

The plan, simple.  Find a local studio and start laying down tracks.  The system was simple.  Drum tracks first, then one guitar playing the rythym track, lay down the bass track, then keyboards if required.  Vocals were always done last.  I beleive that to record vocals, you must sing to the song.  I like having the songs pretty much done before doing vocals because I need to be in a different mode.  When I'm just recording the instrumnents, I can focus on my playing, especially the guitar leads.  I have to let the song tell me what to play.  It's weird.  For vocals, I do the lead vocals first, then back ups.  Alot of my singing has vibroto, so on harmonies I follow meter and I get a perfect chorus of harmony with synced vibroto.  I don't use auto-tune devices that correct pitch.  Just a mic filter and a pinch of delay or reverb is all.   A couple of musicians came in to play some drums and harmonica, otherwise, this album was just me.

The songs are about love, life, fun and fear.  One song, "Mr. Breeze", is actually about base jumping off tall buildings.  Another is an instrumental called "Chet & Django", a tribute to two guitar legends.  One guitar is played Chet-style, the other (an acoustic) with only two fingers.  There's a story in every song really.

The next album will be recorded in-house and will be more band oriented.  The music will be more lively and powerful due to Eds' drumming.  I am in the building stages of a moderately sized building that will serve as a studio and "band room".  Basically, we will be able to rehearse our originals, record live takes, as well as just seperate tracks.  All the post production will be done by outside sources, and the distribution of the final product will be handled by the online music retailers like Itunes.
