Worx has always been known as a "classic rock" band. And, it is true that we adhere to the 70's and 80's sound. So, how about an album that totally embraces those eras? It seemed that during the 90's and the early millennium, these eras were scoffed at. "That's so 80's" was a very used phrase. But today's fashion, cars, even toys are borrowing from these eras now. Even movies from the 70's and 80's are being "re-made". The Longest Yard, Tron, to name a couple. Even songs from these eras are coming around again by being used in new t.v. shows. "That 70's Show" is a great example, too. At any show we do, we'll see a very large age range from mid/late 20's to 50's plus. I think the older fans appreciate the music being played at a very high level of quality, as well as the younger fans absorbing the sounds that they rarely get to hear, much less ever witness. It stands to reason that if the "new music" business had their way, they would rather not have radio stations playing classic rock, instead just keep pumping out the same Pop-a-Matic cookie-cutter music. The "thinking" is that the money has already been made with 70's and 80's music. So, lets get the kids interested in something else. The kicker is that when the youngsters get a taste of what we are putting out there, they are actually looking up the artists that we cover and buying their music. Worx bassist David Lansing summed it up nicely in a recent in-studio session saying "a lot of kids, and older, do actually return to the golden age of music from the late 60's to early 80's, and look to that when they get tired of the not-so-savoured music that has been out over the last several years." Ahhhhhh, validation....

Worx began the recording sessions for their 2nd album "Retrosonic" in late summer of 2009. Instead of taking off several months and just concentrating on recording, we took a mutli-tasked approach to it. We knew Retrosonic would be a big step up from just getting the nod locally. A lot of the songs were already pre-recorded and we performed them live to allow for everyone in the band to get a really good handle on what they wanted to do with their parts. We kept busy playing locally and worked on the album in between shows. This album was going to have such an identifiable theme that it needed to be visible in several aspects from merchandising to promotional posters, even the sound of the album has the retro "vibe". For Worx, it's about coming full circle. Not just with the music, but with ourselves. We were here the first time, and we never let our love for our music erode with time. Retrosonic will speak volumes to those that have sorely missed the sounds of the super-groups from the 70's and 80's. But Worx has all but abandoned the cliche that it has to have a radio home, in light of the way technology has changed the landscape of the music business. Retrosonic has something for anyone who loves classic rock. But, at the same time not being predictable means so much. Classic rock fans expect Worx to play music from the super-groups the way it was actually played by the super-groups. Worx adheres to that same principal with their own music A message with the music, and a story in every song. Retrosonic.
